RJA #3c: Developing Research Question

1. Who- Who is involved in the creation of Affirmative Action?
Who are the people being discriminated by Affirmative Action?
Who are the people being aided by Affirmative Action?
Who wants to keep Affirmative Action in tact?
Who wants to abolish Affirmative Action?

What- What are the benefit's of Affirmative Action?
What are the disadvantages of Affirmative Action?
What is causing so much controversy about this issue?

When- When was this organization created?
When did the federal government recognize and enforce this policy?

Where- Where did some of the most vital decisions regarding Affirmative Action take place?

Why- Why should Affirmative Action be a mean by which to bring equality to education and
employment?
Why doesn't Affirmative Action base their goals in bringing about the progression of
economically and educationally disadvantaged peoples, rather than the issue of race?

Should- Should employers and educational institutions use the Affirmative Action approach
when deciding who to employee or admit to their entities?
Should students have a part in voicing their opinions about Affirmative Action?

Would- Would the removal of Affirmative Action benefit/unbenefit employers or educational
institutions?
Would diversity be an issue in the workplace?
Does diversity contribute to a more better society?

2. How has Affirmative Action impacted a college/universty enrollment rate in terms of diversity?

How does it benefit minorities?

How is it hurting whites?

Has the retention rate of minority students increased?

Are there laws/individual people/groups that have tried to ban Affirmative Action?

Where there programs before the creation of Affirmative Action that helped minorities out?

What was the chance that a minority would be granted equality before the creation of Affirmative Action?

3. I would like to address my paper to those both opposed to Affirmative Action and those supporters of Affirmative Action, and those people who are indifferent about the controversy. All audiences would be interested in learning about the benefits and disadvantages that occur in majority and minority groups. We can all learn about the decisions behind the admissions, employment choices that employers and colleges face. My purpose in writing this is so that I can be more aware of the types of programs that are available to minorities and how the effort in bringing about progression in more disadvantaged groups can also lead to discrimination in others. I would like to learn how their can be a chance of equality for all people's regardless of their ethnic background, and to learn why race is a factor that is involved in decision making in terms of education and employment.

4. The colored text questions in # 1 are the ones that would fufill the purpose of writing my research paper.

5. This is the question that most interests me: Should Affirmative Action base their goals in trying to increase the progression of economically and educationally disadvantaged peoples rather than on the basis of race?
